I have always walked on the wild side of conformist, and this weekend I did the same with my nails. I have taken the idea of the statement nail and made it my own.
The reason for this was actually an accident, I had done some tester nail swatchs and by mistake it actually worked. I hve a different colour on each of the five nails from dark sparkly red through to gold foil. However as they are all on the spectrum of dark red to gold they kind of match. By pure fluke the gold foil is on my index finger, and the plainest amp red is on my thumb. Like I said it was only a tester on one hand as I was going to take it off yesterday, until mum commented how unusual yet pretty it looked. So last night I repeated it on the other hand.
Today I braved the world sporting my nails, off to church I went. Now let my explain my church is not of the radical side and I have caused many a grey hair with my tattoo and various piercings. Grante a few others of my generation hae tipped a nod at my bravery. Once there I waited for the usual looks of dissaproval or horror, but for once they didn't happen. Instead some people who were alive long enough to still claim they were horrified by Woodstock, were complimenting the pretty colours and unusual look. One person actually said she hadn't thought she could get away with the foil look till she saw it on my nail.
Granted this look didn't make my normal rebellous statement to the more puritain of my church, but instead it probably opened the doors to some whom fashion terrifies them. I am not saying I expect half the congregation to show up with red nail polish, heaven forbid, but it gave them food for thought. At the end of the day thats the whole point of fashion, whether it be clothes or make up or nails, it is to make your own statement.
Mision accomplished, now to the next stage.
