What can be achieved from under a duvet

My day of sensible reading and television has paid off. In one day I have mastered the 1st stitch in crotchet, something that up to know has been a total brain malfunction. I have learnt a bit more English history, including the Plantagenet's, an era that total baffles me.And some how agreed to help man my church's coffee bar one afternoon a week. That last bit was due to extreme arm bending.

But it does go to prove how much can be achieved, even on a duvet day, and does not include the small bit of L'Ocitane shopping I did on line. But by turning off the junk TV and putting the glossy magazines aside I actually learnt something today. Apparently tomorrow has also been ordered as a duvet day due the fact my feet are still bad. So I wonder what possibilities are held in that. I want to finally get my history complete. Tomorrow may have to be the house of Hanover, and step two of my crotchet, that way I will achieve some more.

It reminds me of the old sampler we have from one of my distant relations who wasn't of strong constitution. She used to make samplers to kill her boredom in a time that had gas lamps and no electricity. From her sick bed she made these gorgeous cross stitch samplers of her work. In time she did recover and made her career as crafts woman in needle work. It is actually a talent I was lucky enough to inherit, but I didn't inherit any of the patience of those before me. May be I am  victim of this post modernity world we live in, that my brain was everything to go faster. Or it could be the fact that I am all to aware of the fact I have cheated death more times than is fair, and one day it will bite back.

However I have gained one thing from the relative who did the sampler, my writing as with everything else I hae done will be available to those after me, unlike my grand mother who after an 8 year battle with cancer decided in her last days to destroy all her poetry she had written. As a fellow poet I would have loved to see and read her work. In the way we have grandads, and all my great aunts on both sides art work. It would take a miracle for me to have off spring but I have god children and 2nd cousins who can inherit this.

As for the prospects of duvet days, they are just another day to learn more and document more, after all we are remembered for what we do not how long we are here.
