Post Party reflection

I survived ! well actually it turned out to be very civilised, by our standards. Yes there was drink and yes I had a large quantity of it, but not enough to become a danger on sticks.

Ten years ago my birthday was a week long event with enough alcohol to flood the Titanic. This one is a smaller affair with barely enough drink to pollute a bath! Mind you we did have the quiz and to be honest we were more interested in getting that done. All the childhood competitiveness came forth, along with husbands trying to prove their worth. All were focused minus the younger generation, who were doing their best to remind us how over zealous young love can be. Some one must really remind the youth of today that they do need to come up for air at some point.

That said our little team who don't do pub quizzes and were so busy competing with each other, had convinced ourselves we were betting whether we were last or second to last. So much so that while the results were being added up I hopped out for a cigarette, whilst getting the barrage of anti smoking lectures from the ex smokers in the group. You can imagine my surprise when I return to a bottle of wine in my place, we came second and only by two points. Literally if we had  played our joker in the last round instead of the music round we would have taken a very clear lead.

So the night ended on a high, although there were no lows except it became very obvious my back had given out and walking to the car was sheer hard work. But even that has lead to a discovery of sorts. Meet my new best friend, my hot water bottle, it doesn't remove the pain, but it is stopping the majority of the shooting pains up and down my back and legs, and with it I can move with less swearage.

All in all we have two may be three outcomes on the night, 1) I can't drink like I used to 2) I need a constant supply of hot water bottles or heat patches and the big one 3) we are back for the next birthday on November 25th and we are out to win.
